Beauty Benefits of Pumpkin

The Amazing Beauty Benefits of Pumpkin

Every Fall pumpkins get to have their moment in the spotlight. We're convinced they should be part of our skincare routine all year round!

Pumpkin packs a powerful punch of nutrients to our skin. With beauty benefits that range from increasing moisture levels to brightening skin tone, pumpkin is a beauty-boosting superstar.

If you've experienced one of these mighty masks at a high end spa, then you know what I'm talking about.

Why Pumpkin?

Pumpkin is made up of alpha hydroxy acids (similar to glycolic acid and lactic acid), which are fruit acids that slough dead skin cells, increase cell turnover and keep the skin glowing.

Pumpkin is also full of B vitamins such as niacin, riboflavin, zinc, B6 and folate. Niacin and Folate help to increase circulation and give your skin a healthy glow.

Zinc found in pumpkin seeds is beneficial for acne sufferers as it helps control oil production, as well as assisting with healing of the skin.

Fall is the perfect time to get into the habit of using a face mask routinely. Setting aside time for selfcare at least once a week is perfect.

How to use a pumpkin face mask for best beauty benefits:

First, plan some YOU time. Allow at least 20 minutes.

Gently cleanse your skin. Apply about a teaspoon of mask to your face and neck. Allow yourself the luxury of putting your feet up and relaxing for 10-15 minutes.

Many pumpkin masks are quite powerful and you may feel a warming sensation. This is normal.

Your skin may benefit in the following ways:

  • Infuses the skin with bioflavonoids that aid in the absorption of skin-friendly vitamins
  • Deeply hydrates and plumps the skin
  • Stimulates collagen production to reduce appearance of fine lines
  • Provides antioxidant benefits, including protection from environmental stressors
  • Delivers beta carotene, amino acids and fruit enzymes to the skin

Pumpkin also has the added benefit of containing beta-carotene, a vitamin A-derivative that decreases wrinkles, helps slough brown spots and can help reverse UV damage.

Forget about Jack O Lanterns and pie--let's get the complexion we've dreamed of with the help of our fruity (yes, it's a fruit) friend, the pumpkin.
