5 Easy Tips On How to Avoid The Flu This Season

It seems everyone you talk to lately has or is just getting over the flu. Then you turn on the news and there's talk of the coronavirus!

I've been researching ways to prevent getting the flu. While most of what I read is common sense, I did learn a thing or two. Here's what I found:

1. Hand Washing

Okay, this is common sense. We all know handwashing is crucial...but how many of us really wash our hands and between fingers for 15 seconds with soap and warm water?

Here's what the CDC (Center for Disease Control) says:

"The problem of diseases being spread by dirty hands is that the public is not washing their hands adequately enough. The average 3-5 seconds that most people spend washing their hands is not enough time to properly kill bacteria, the CDC warned. The best thing that people can do to get rid of harmful bacteria is to wash their hands for longer lengths of time using regular soap and warm water."

2. Anti-bacterial gels and soaps

Laboratory studies have raised the possibility that triclosan found in many of our anti-bacterial soaps contributes to making bacteria resistant to antibiotics. Some data shows this resistance may have a significant impact on the effectiveness of medical treatments, such as antibiotics. It is suggested if you're going to use an anti-bacterial gel, use one that is alcohol-based.

3. Don't Allow Yourself To Get Rundown

Sleep! It's crucial to staying healthy. Don't stay up to finish that late night movie. Don't run that extra errand when you're already tired...it can wait (I need to listen to my own advice on this one). Do whatever you need to do to naturally get a good night's rest. Personally, I use our CBD Oil every night to relax.

4. Support your Immune System!

There are a number of ways to do this, from using Zinc this time of year, to my favorite...diffusing Immunity blends of Essential Oils. There are many E.0's that are known for their antiviral and antibacterial affinity and assist in supporting our immune systems. We've recently launched a new Essential oil blend, "Immunity"

How to avoid getting the flu, Coronavirus, immunity boost, support, essential oils, clove, cinnamon, Laurel Leaf, Rosemary

Here are a few of the oils found in our Immunity Blend. Holy Basil (antibacterial, anti-infectious), Rosemary (antimicrobial, immunostimulant) Cinnamon (immunostimulant, antibacterial), and Laurel Leaf (antiseptic, antiviral) are just a few of the oils found in our New Immunity Blend.

This blend is meant to be diffused or used in an inhaler. You can also add a couple drops to a 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil, apply to palms, and inhale blend from hands - Clean hands of course ;-)

In our home, we diffuse the Immunity Blend every day for 1-2 hours this time of year. We like to diffuse for an hour in the morning and hour in the evening.

TIP:

Never diffuse essential oils all day long. Our bodies get used to the oils. When the body is acclimatized, the positive effects of essential oils are decreased. Best to diffuse for short periods of time 2-3 times daily.

AND Finally...

5. Make an immune-boosting Herbal Tea

Green tea with star anise and other herbs such as turmeric, fresh ginger, fresh garlic, cloves.

Practice staying calm (prayer/meditation) and follow the basic tips listed above throughout the flu season and breeze through this wonderful time of year.
