Is Skin On My Neck Different Than My Face?

Why is my neck aging faster than my face?

During our lifetimes, we spend hours caring for our faces with serums, moisturizers, and polishes. But, when we head down to our neck and chest, it's a different story.

The skin on your neck is thinner and more delicate and therefore susceptible to damage from pollution and sun exposure. It's also often overlooked. We forget our neck and decollete (chest) when cleansing, applying serums, and moisturizing.

Sun damage can affect both our face and neck if not protected by a good sunscreen and daily cleansing routine!

Do you know

The average person spends 6-8 hours a day looking at screens and scrolling through social media. That's a lot of time looking down and it's wreaking havoc on our necks.

The simple act of looking down at a device can add anywhere between 10-60 pounds of weight on the delicate neck area. Add this to factors like collagen loss and thin skin texture and it makes our necks more vulnerable to premature signs of aging.

My neck seems to have aged overnight!

This can be because so many of us forget or ignore our necks when applying skincare products...until it seems like overnight our necks have aged a decade.

Our thinner and more delicate neck skin requires special care. It has fewer oil glands and is, therefore, more prone to showing the signs of aging, including sagging, age spots, and fine lines.

What can I do now? The good news...

Commit to cleansing and moisturizing your face and neck daily. Micellar Water is a great option if you're in a hurry or not near water for rinsing. A daily sunscreen/moisturizer to hydrate and restore the neck and face is a must.

It is essential to not only moisturize but to exfoliate regularly. Using an exfoliating polish and mask at least once a week is a great routine for self-care and perfect-aging.  Just don't neglect the neck and chest.

Is it necessary to use a product specifically for the neck?

Because the skin on the neck is much thinner than the skin on the face, it loses elasticity before the face.

While it may not be 100% necessary to use a separate product you do want to look for certain ingredients in the products you use on this delicate skin.

We love peptides for their collagen boosting properties. Adding products that include peptides can stimulate your skin to make collagen, therefore, adding structural integrity to the skin on our necks.

Peptides can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and they also can help make skin feel more taut. Studies report the anti-wrinkle benefits of peptides
