But today, I want to pause the usual beauty talk to share a quick personal update—and a vital reminder about the one skincare rule none of us can afford to break: scheduling your yearly professional skin check.

Last week, I sat in my dermatologist's chair for my routine full-body scan. A few days later, the phone rang. The verdict? Pre-melanoma.

Hearing a word like melanoma definitely makes your heart skip a beat! This hits incredibly close to home for me, as I tragically lost my cousin to melanoma when we were just 24 years old. Because I know firsthand how devastatingly fast skin cancer can move, getting a call like that is a sobering moment.

But here is the truth about what my specific diagnosis actually means: a "pre-melanoma" just means they found some highly abnormal cells, my doctor explained is clinically known as a severely dysplastic nevus (a highly atypical mole).

The good news is they are entirely locked on the very top, outer surface of the skin. It is not skin cancer, and because it was caught so early, it has zero ability to spread.

Think of it like a weed seed that sprouted on a concrete sidewalk—it’s there, but it hasn’t been able to put any roots down into the soil.

This isn't a scary medical crisis; it is actually a massive preventative victory. My doctor did exactly what she was supposed to do—she caught a problem spot before it ever had the chance to become dangerous.

In a few days, I’m headed back to the office for a quick, routine snip to clear the area, and that will be the end of it. The issue will be 100% resolved and behind me.
